Cheaters: The Star Trek Confrontation
Feb 8, 2012 life, movies and tv, scifi and fantasy
Right now I don’t have cable TV, so I’m stuck with local programming. I really need to pay off some med bills and get a new car, and I’ve gone down to just the must-have expeditures – shelter, food, etc.
But for some reason, I can get all the cheesy auxillary stations but not the big three: NBC, CBS and ABC. As I’m flipping channels trying to find something to watch that isn’t going to completely rot my brain out, like one of those judge shows, I landed on an episode of Cheaters.
Normally I would kill myself trying to change the channel, but as my finger moved over the remote button, I heard the host tell the guy that was cheated on: “If you want to confront her, she and the guy are at a Star Trek convention.”
Wait…it was gonna go down at a Star Trek con? Ok, I was sucked in.
So the guy cheated on confronts his girlfriend, who’s all dressed up as Marta the slave girl, from the original series, complete with red wig and green body paint. Her partner-in-crime is dressed up as Kirk (of course), complete with yellow shirt and phaser.
And the three of them start yelling at each other in the middle of the convention center.
The floozy grabs Kirk and takes off with him and the cheated on guy starts yelling how much he loves her and the chase is on.
Yes, this is some great quality TV, isn’t it? I couldn’t take anymore and had to change the channel.
I’m now watching some show on how to make homemade apricot ice cream.
I’m not sure how long I’m going to last without cable.

Me vs. the Palmetto Bug
Feb 4, 2012 life
It’s a fact of life in Florida that no matter how clean you keep your living space, you will occassionally encounter a Palmetto bug or cockroach inside your house or apartment. Especially if you live in an apartment since they like to live and travel within the various ducts that connect everything.
So this morning I went to the bathroom and as I’m sitting there, my dog comes to visit me. She does this when we’re alone because she always needs to be stuck by my side so she knows where I am at all times.
Anyways, as I’m sitting doing my business, a Palmetto bug runs out from behind the cabinet to the door. I immediately pull my dog back because I don’t want her eating it.
The bug meanwhile decides to run towards my right foot, so I lift it off the floor. Leeshka uses this as an opportunity to bolt for the couch in the living room. In that instant, I lose sight of where the bug is and, thinking it made a beeline for my left foot, I set down my right to lift up my left.
I hear the crack immediately and then feel it wriggle under my foot.
Yes, I have just smashed the bug with the ball of my foot…my bare foot, I might add.
Let’s all pause for the big “ewwww!”
Finishing up, I flushed the bug down the toilet, scrubbed about 20 layers of skin off the bottom of my foot and went back to the living room, where I saw Leeshka up on the couch bravely getting over her shock and fear.
