Bullock and McCarthy Totally Kick Ass With The Heat [My Movie Review]

This week I was invited to a sneak preview of the upcoming release The Heat, starring Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy. I was expecting this movie to be funny from the trailers I’d seen, but this movie had me laughing from start to finish.

And not just giggles…we’re talking full on snort-laughing.

The Heat, Sandra Bullock, Melissa McCarthyIn The Heat, uptight FBI Special Agent Sarah Ashburn (Bullock) is assigned to the Boston office to track down a ruthless drug lord. She runs up against tough cop Shannon Mullins (McCarthy), who has a personal stake in the investigation.

Needless to say, the two don’t get along. Mullins’ bull-in-a-china-shop style of working does not mesh well at all with Ashburn’s smug, over-confident style. But of course, if they want to bring down the mysterious baddie, they need to find a way to bond.

This is one of the best buddy cop movies I’ve ever seen, and the fact that both leads are women, lends itself to some jokes and situations that you don’t normally see in these movies.

The Heat, Sandra Bullock, Melissa McCarthyDirected by Paul Feig (Bridesmaids), the laughs are continuous, and quite often I found myself thinking, “I can’t believe they went there.” There’s also a strong supporting cast that includes Marlon Wayans, Jane Curtain, Taran Killam, and Joey McIntyre (yes, of NKOTB fame).

The Heat is also one of those comedies that you’ll find yourself quoting afterwards.

This is definitely an adult comedy – it earns its “R” rating with a lot of profanity and violence. But as long as you aren’t easily offended, you’ll enjoy this movie.

I can’t wait to see it again.

The Heat is in US theaters on June 28, 2013.
