MTV VMA’s Recap – My Picks for Best and Worst Moments (With Videos)

I’ve been watching the MTV Music Video Awards since the first one many moons ago, and while most years, there’s one moment that is a major trainwreck, surprisingly there weren’t any major “WTF” moments in last night’s awards.

That’s not to say everything was great, though. There were definitely some misses, just as there were some really great moments.

So here are my personal picks for Best and Worst of the 2013 MTV VMA’s:

Best Moment: The Justin Timberlake performance, including a reunion with his former NSync bandmates.

This lengthy medley – 20 minutes long! – encompassed many years of JT’s hits, and prove that he is the real deal when it comes to music. I do wish he’d done more than two minutes with NSync, since that’s where he got his start, but at least they did something. I’ll take those two minutes, thank you very much.

 

Runner-up Best Moment: Macklemore & Ryan Lewis performing “Same Love” with Mary Lambert and special guest Jennifer Hudson.

They performed their hit song about giving equal rights to gays and lesbians, and you could feel the love on the stage. Hudson was a nice surprise, and I loved when she and Lambert traded off vocals at the end.

Worst Moment:  Miley Cyrus twerking with Robin Thicke during their duet on his song, “Blurred Lines.”

To be honest, I’m not a fan of twerking to begin with, but I think Cyrus went over the line when she started grinding up against Thicke’s crotch with her ass. I also wasn’t a fan of her rubbing his crotch with her foam finger, either. No, that’s not a euphanism. She really did have foam finger on her hand. I get she’s trying to be all wild child, but that’s just crude and to do it to a married man in front of his wife, just turned me off the performance.

    Hands down Miley’s performance was the worst I’ve witnessed to date. I actually missed the awards but looked up the performance online because of all the continual banter I’d been hearing.
