As a long-time Star Wars fan, I have been anxiously awaiting the first look at the upcoming new installment, Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Today I, along with the rest of the internet, got that look via a teaser trailer.
It wasn’t long enough to really tell us anything about the plot of the movie, but there was plenty to set our hearts racing.
The first shot that sticks in my mind occurs about half-way through the clip: that badass Sith lightsaber with a laser hilt guard, like a real sword. Check it out:
Then there’s the Millenium Falcon, thrown in at the end, almost like an afterthought, but it’s enough to get that nostalgia feeling burning. We haven’t seen the Falcon take flight since Return of the Jedi, over 30 years ago. But there it was, lighting up the sky and taking us on a rollercoaster run across a desert landscape.
Hell yes!
Of course there are some glimpses into the newer aspects of the Star Wars saga: actor John Boyega in a Stormtrooper outfit; a rolling R2 unit; actress Daisy Ridley riding something that looks like an oversized landspeeder.
All the visuals are tied together with the timeless sounds of John Williams score, ending with the triumphant sounds of the original Star Wars theme.
A voice (sounding suspiciously like actor Benedict Cumberbatch) starts the teaser by saying “There’s been an awakening. Have you felt it?”
Yes, yes…I think we have all felt it this morning.
I can only hope the story backs up the excitement of this teaser trailer. Last thing we need in another Ep 1-3, where the visuals were great but the story sucked.
This teaser at least gives me some hope The Force is with this movie. Only a year until we find out. Star Wars: The Force Awakens, opens in theaters December 18, 2015.

I am SO pumped for the new trilogy, and all the things that come with it! I definitely can’t wait to see what Disney does with Hollywood Studios’ incarnation of the franchise, and I’m so glad my kids will get to enjoy Star Wars during their childhood the way I did!
