My Current Top 10 Most Wanted Travel Destinations

As I gear back up to go full time with my travel and writing, I started thinking about where I would most like to go.

My Current Top 10 Most Wanted Travel Destinations

The world has so many fascinating places to discover it’s almost hard to choose. I have traveled a lot of the U.S., but there are still places I haven’t gone. I’ve also traveled a bit outside of the U.S., but I’d definitely love to do more.

So here is my Top 10 List of places in the World I most want to visit (in no particular order)…WARNING! Lots of travel porn coming up:

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

An island that looks like it belongs on another world. So much natural beauty to explore. Iceland has been on my want list for years. My fellow travelers speak of adventure and vistas that blow the mind. Yeah, I have to visit Iceland.

Another locale that has been on my want list for years. Such natural beauty. So many cute animals. Lots of friendly people. I’ve heard nothing but good things from fellow travelers about Australia, and I want to see it for myself. Plus, I need to hold a koala.

New Zealand

I’d wanted to visit for a while, but seeing New Zealand in the Lord of the Rings movies just hit it home for me. Such amazing natural scenery! I just want to explore the whole country.

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

I’ve had a fascination with volcanoes since I was a kid. I would love to see one close, and Hawaii has some. Hawaii is also lush and beautiful and I’d love to see the differences between its islands. Plus so many waterfalls!

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

My main attraction to Greece is my love of Greek mythology. I really want to see the ancient ruins for myself. I’d also love to see some of the islands and the beautiful blue sea.

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

The Balkan Adriatic Coast

This area technically includes Greece, but for list purposes, to me, the Balkan countries on the Adriatic side include Croatia, Serbia, and Montenegro. These areas are less than 30 years removed from the war that broke Yugoslavia into individual countries, but all of the photos and stories I’ve read from other travelers have convinced me it’s a place I need to discover for myself.

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

Northern California

I love SoCal, but for some reason, I haven’t made it up north of L.A., and there’s so much to see. San Francisco – so much foodie goodness!, Yosemite, Redwood forests, and I will drive the PCH from SF to LA someday.

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

Northeast Canadian Provinces

I’ve been through most of the provinces but there are still four I haven’t really explored: Quebec, Newfoundland & Labrador, Prince Edward Island, and Nova Scotia. I did visit Montreal when I was 8, but don’t remember much other than great architecture. I’ve read so many wonderful travel stories about visiting this area and I really want to see it for myself.

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

British Columbia, Canada

I grew up in B.C., but I’d love to see the province as an adult. I want to do a Sunshine coast circle tour from Vancouver, up the coast to Desolation Sound, then take the ferry across to Vancouver Island and explore the west coast/Tofino, as well as revisit one of my old homes on Hornby Island. I also would love to go inland and revisit areas like Kamloops and Revelstoke, and maybe even venture to the northern areas of the province.

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

The history, the culture, the architecture…there are a wealth of reasons why this country made my top ten. I’d really love to check out the southern region – Grenada, Seville, etc. Food may be a challenge since I don’t eat seafood, but I’m sure I’ll find some national delicacies I can eat.

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

So those are the locales that are on my Top Ten Travel List. Are they on yours? Have you been there? What places are on your Top Ten? Let me know in comments.

    Love this list. I’ve been to a few, and about to visit the Northeast Canadian Provinces in a couple of weeks, via cruise. Iceland seems so accessible out of the Sanford airport but Australia and New Zealand feel like the other side of the world (well, actually they are) and it’s going to take a big budget to get there.

      Yeah, if I do Australia and New Zealand I’ll probably try to tie them together just because the length of the flight and the price of the airfare. When I do the NE Canadian provinces, I’m thinking road trip, but a cruise would be nice, too. Can’t wait to read about your trip!

  2. This is a great list! I almost went to Australia on my honeymoon, but we went to Ireland instead – which I think deserves a spot on your list. 😉

    I love this! I also want to go to Northern California. Actually, I plan to move to SOCal in early 2016, and I’ve been to northern once, but I need to go back. I didn’t get to see the redwoods or wine country. I did go to Alcatraz though! Iceland looks awesome too. I want to go to India and Israel 🙂 Thanks for sharing!
