Orlando Bloom Reteams with Johnny Depp for Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales

During Disney’s movie panel at the D23 Expo, it was announced that Orlando Bloom will reprise his role as Will Turner in Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales.

Orlando Bloom will reprise his role as Will Turner in POTC

For those that remember, at the end of Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End, Will was forced to assume command of the Flying Dutchman and serve a ten year exile from dry land and leave behind his new wife, Elizabeth. In the post-credits scene, Will returned a decade later to meet Elisabeth and their son.

But Turner was conspicuously absent from the 4th film in the series, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. No word on what causes him to reteam with Captain Jack, played by Johnny Depp, but I’m sure it’s something epic.

In fact, little is known about the film at all, save for the following official synopsis:

“Thrust into an all-new adventure, a down-on-his-luck Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) finds the winds of ill-fortune blowing even more strongly when deadly ghost pirates led by his old nemesis, the terrifying Captain Salazar (Javier Bardem), escape from the Devil’s Triangle, determined to kill every pirate at sea…including him. Captain Jack’s only hope of survival lies in seeking out the legendary Trident of Poseidon, a powerful artifact that bestows upon its possessor total control over the seas.”

Also onboard for the film are Geoffry Rush as Captain Barbosa, as well as new cast members Kaya Scodelario (The Maze Runner) as Carina Smyth, David Wenham (300) as Scarfield, and Brenton Thwaites (Maleficent) as Henry.

Shooting on Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales has recently wrapped in Australia. It is set for release on July 7, 2017.

Producer Jerry Bruckheimer and actor Johnny Depp were on hand at D23 for the announcement:
