DC Fandome Recap: Director James Gunn Reveals Characters and First Look at The Suicide Squad .. #DCFandome #TheSuicideSquad

The Suicide Squad title card

This weekend, during day one of DC Fandome, my favorite panel and reveal was The Suicide Squad, where director James Gunn not only revealed the characters, but offered a first look at the film via a behind-the-scenes reel.

One of the most popular questions about the film, which is a follow up to the 2016 Warner Bros. movie, has been who is playing what character. Many posts have been devoted to figuring out costumes in set photos and matching them to the comic characters.

Well, wonder no more, as Gunn revealed the list during the panel:

Returning cast/characters are Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Viola Davis as Amanda Waller, Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang, and Joel Kinnaman as Colonel Rick Flag.

New to the Squad (or as they’re also known, Task Force X), are…

  • Steve Agee as King Shark
  • Flula Borg as Javelin
  • Alice Braga as Sol Soria
  • Peter Capaldi as Thinker
  • John Cena as Peacemaker
  • David Dastmalchian as Polka Dot Man
  • Pete Davidson as Blackguard
  • Idris Elba as Bloodsport
  • Nathan Fillion as TDK
  • Sean Gunn as Weasel
  • Daniela Melchior as Ratcatcher 2
  • Mayling Ng as Mongal
  • Michael Rooker as Savant

That’s a lot of great actors to wrangle, but many of the cast commented how fun the set was during the panel. Here’s the roll call reveal photo from the panel:

But the best part of the panel was we got a first look at the film via a short two-minute behind-the-scenes reel, and the film does look like a lot of fun:

The sad thing is we still have to wait almost a year until The Suicide Squad, which is currently scheduled for release on August 6, 2021. But I’ll be sure to keep you up-to-date on the latest news about the movie. I can’t wait to see it…how about you?
