The Babysitter: Killer Queen is currently streaming on Netflix, and it’s a horror-comedy movie that is a sequel to Netflix’s 2017 film, The Babysitter.
I saw the original film, and loved it, but even though I didn’t think it needed a sequel, I was still looking forward to seeing this film.
The Babysitter: Killer Queen continues the story of Cole Johnson (Judah Lewis), now in his junior year of high school two years later, who has found out his parents plan to commit him to a psychiatric ward due to his stories of what happened during the course of the first film.
He escapes his house with his best friend Melanie (Emily Alyn Lind), who takes him to a party on a houseboat. But things don’t go quite as planned when the killers from the first film are released from hell to go after him again.
In the span of one night, Cole must again fight to ensure his survival as he is hunted by demonic enemies, both old and new.
It sounds really serious, but most of the film is played for laughs. There’s still plenty of killing and gore, but it’s more slapstick and silly in nature.
If the film would’ve strictly concentrated on Cole, his friends, and the killers, it would have been a better film. Unfortunately there is a subplot involving Cole’s dad hanging out with Melanie’s dad that is just…bad. Bad dialogue. Badly written scenes. Bad humor.
The ending wraps up interestingly, and a mid-credit scene hints there could be more to come. Not really sure this sequel needs a sequel, though.
This isn’t a bad film, but I definitely liked the first one better. I’m giving The Babysitter: Killer Queen a 3 out of 5 stars.
