As part of its Halloween programming, Vampires vs. the Bronx has debuted on Netflix, and it’s a family-friendly horror-comedy movie.
Vampires vs. the Bronx centers around three young best friends – Miguel, Bobby, and Luis – who live in a Dominican neighborhood in the Bronx area of New York City.
The trio start noticing a strange company named Murnau Investments (a nice nod to ‘Nosferatu‘ director F.W. Murnau) is starting to buy out their neighborhood, and take a stand to save their local bodega.
One of the kids sees a murder happen while biking home, and swears to his friends it was a vampire. And as more people start disappearing, the trio decides to do something about it.
That is if their neighborhood and their moms would just stop getting in their way.
Vampires vs. the Bronx is a funny vampire movie, and it is appropriate for teens and pre-teens as most of the actual violence happens off-screen. Younger children may still find it scary.
The actors playing the kids (Jaden Michael, Gerald Jones III, Gregory Diaz IV) were great in the roles, and I appreciated there was some girl power, too. Surprisingly, there were even some unique vampire kills (no gore, they just turn into hot embers, then dust).
Adults will also appreciate some of the star cameos like Zoe Saldana, The Kid Mero, and Method Man (as a preacher of all things), and all ages will enjoy the humorous Bronx attitude and references.
Vampires vs. the Bronx should be added to your family’s Halloween list. I’m giving it a 3.5 out of 5 stars.
