Zengrrl’s Movie Review: Run (2020) .. #Hulu #Run #SarahPaulson #KieraAllen

Hulu original thriller Run, starring Sarah Paulson and Kiera Allen.

The suspense thriller “Run” centers on Chloe (Kiera Allen), a teenager looking forward to going off to college.

There are obstacles, however. She has been paralyzed from the waist down since birth, and has other illnesses like diabetes and asthma. She is home schooled by her mother Diane (Sarah Paulson), who has taken care of her every need, including medicines and physical therapy.

Diane has also raised her daughter in total isolation, controlling every move she’s made since birth. But there are secrets that Chloe’s only beginning to grasp…secrets that could literally change her life and everything she’s known up until then.

Run” initially seems like one of those controlling mother thrillers, then pivots to something worse.

Newcomer Kiera Allen really embodies the daughter who keeps discovering lie upon lie as the world around her crumbles. Both physically and emotionally, she really brings the character’s situation to life. Sarah Paulson is also good, as usual, as the mother who gets more and more frustrated as her web of lies becomes uncovered.

And kudos to the film for casting an actual wheelchair user in the role of Chloe!

I will say there is a twist near the end that I didn’t see coming, and another at the very end that added an extra level of creepy to the story.  And that’s all I can say in the interest of keeping this review as spoiler-free as possible.

If you enjoy a tense thriller that borders on outright horror, definitely give “Run” a watch. I’m giving it a 4 out of 5 stars.
